Member responsibilities
Loan conditions
The loan period is two weeks, excluding school holidays. Please return toys on time or notify the library if this is not possible (e.g. due to illness).
You can return and select new toys as often as you like, you don't need to wait two weeks.
Toys cannot be reserved or renewed.
Members may not swap toys between each other.
Toys and other resources must be clean when you return them and you must notify the librarian if there are any missing or broken parts.
Fines may be charged for missing or damaged toys, other resources and storage containers.
Volunteer duties
Each member is required to complete a number of duties (e.g. volunteering at sessions) per year during the library opening hours. Saturday sessions count for 2 duties. Other volunteering for the Toy Library will also count towards duties. Families of children with special needs are exempt.
Members can choose to pay an additional $60 annual fee to opt out of duties.
The duties usually involve assisting the librarian with issues and returns, helping new members and processing any new toys. After completing a duty, members can borrow an extra toy for two weeks for no additional cost.
You can sign up for duties on the roster here.
Caring for our toys
Check for missing pieces. As soon as you get home please check that each toy you have borrowed has all the parts listed. Let the library know immediately by email if there are missing or broken pieces so we can update our records.
Look after toys while they are with you. While we understand that sometimes toys break and pieces get lost, we expect you to take reasonable measures to help Toy Library toys last the distance. Try keeping Toy Library Toys in one part of your home to make it easier to find parts when toys are due back. Consider putting more fragile Toy Library toys away temporarily if you have young visitors. It is a good idea to store storage containers and bags away from children.
Ride-on vehicles and outdoor toys. Please protect outside toys from the weather and sun damage. If possible store indoors at night and keep them secure if you are away from the property.
Repairs. Please make minor repairs to toys or packaging if you can. If a toy that you have borrowed has broken, please inform the librarian who will arrange to either get it fixed or removed from the Toy Library.
Cleaning. Please clean toys before returning them and make sure they are dry (especially water toys and outside toys). Vinegar or dish liquid can be used on most toys. Do not immerse toys in water. Follow any laundry instructions for dress-ups.
Returns. Please check toys again for missing pieces before you return your toys and notify the librarian of any missing or broken pieces.
Summer Lending
The Toy Library is closed for regular lending over summer but members can borrow as many toys as they want for $5 per toy for the entire summer holiday period. This is great value and a vital fundraiser for the Toy Library each year.
Summer Lending starts two weeks before the Toy Library closes for the year (usually our last session is the last Saturday before school finishes).
Toys borrowed before Summer Lending starts still need to be returned on time, you can't keep them for the Summer Lending period as well.
Once Summer Lending starts, you can borrow as usual up to the final week we are open but if toys are not returned before the Toy Library closes for the year, Summer Lending charges will apply.
We do not loan toys with more than 20 pieces during Summer Lending, due to the high risk of losing pieces. This includes puzzles, games, Duplo, Playmobil and other large sets.
All toys need to be stored inside overnight and cleaned before being returned.
